The Importance of ‘Ghajini’ -AKA- A Film to Remember

Despite the accusations of being a ‘copy’ and being a film full of logical flaws…’Ghajini’ is here to rule. The fact that it has become the biggest grosser of all times in India says a lot about what people really want and crave for.
This is the return of quintessential Hindi film where a heroine is still a girl you can fall in love with and not somebody who talks and behaves just like a guy. (refer to Priyanka Chopra’s metrosexual??? portrayals of recent times.)
This is the return of quintessential Hindi film where a villain is still a villain whom you hate and want him dead as for how long, we as an audience can get on with the ‘circumstances’ as the only potential antagonist.
Also, Ghajini’s triumph lies in the fact that this is a film which worked for an all-India audience and not some ‘niche’ audience. This is cinema at large where the difference between muliplexes and small town single screen theatres doesn’t matter.
Purely from a fanboy perspective I felt elated when I saw the hero’s entry…the creepy looking henchmen…the over the top action sequence…the larger than life thing…move over candy floss peddlers…80’s is back and is here to stay.

  1. nice comment vikchav…..But Gone are the days of single screen theatres which was to me the most interactive form of watching cinema where people didnt merely come to watch a movie or have a pop corn and a samosa packet but to watch their heroes….
Cinema was all about that, with all its baddies cabaret vamps and beauties…Ghajini proved it again that Indians will and always love this formula no matter even if its rehashed a million times…As they say once a indian always a indian………god save sensible cinema now… 😉
